Material related to illustrated book published as: Kali : poems & etchings / Jim DIne. [London] : Enitharmon Press ; Walla Walla, WA : Whitman College, 1999. Etchings printed by Julia D'Amario and Bill Hall; letterpress by Ruth Lingen. Binding by Mark Tomlinson. Etching state proofs include from 2 to 7 states of each of the 17 prints created for Kali; states are numbered on verso. In addition, there is a variant of the t.p. aquatint, apparently unused. Correspondence is chiefly between Ruth Lingen (Pace Editions) and Stephen Stuart-Smith (Enitharmon Press). Includes also: Letter to Jim Dine from Keiko Hara (Whitman College), July 19, 1999; ms. note with paper samples, initialed by Mark Tomlinson (binder); 2 typescript drafts of colophon; proof of colophon leaf; designs for lettering on binding; Enitharmon Press device. Type registration and make-ready mock-up consists of double-page translucent sheets with the ill. sketched in pencil, to which smaller sheets containing printed text and ms. annotations are attached. Type state proofs are annotated in ms. Includes also sheet with holograph poem by Dine and sheet with mounted cloth and paper samples for binding. Working dummy contains mounted ill. and text; bound in boards with blue cloth spine. Laid in: Ms. note from M (Mark Tomlinson), dated 030599, sending "2nd prototype."
